ORTESOL Advisory Council Positions

Another way to give back to our profession is by becoming an Advisory Council member. The ORTESOL Board Advisory Council exists to give advice to the ORTESOL Board. Advisory Council members are appointed, not elected, and can serve for as long as they wish. Advisory Council members do not vote on any board matters, but they do serve on the committees of their choice. We ask that Advisory Council members attend at least one board meeting per year, preferably more, in order for them to share their experience and knowledge with the board.

People who would be ideal Advisory Council members:

  • Former ORTESOL Board members.
  • Program administrators
  • Those with experience in conference or event planning
  • Those with experience in growing membership for any organization
  • Those with experience in the academic publishing process (ORTESOL publishes a peer-reviewed annual Journal, and an Advisory Council member could give advice to the Journal Editors and Publications Chair)
  • Those with experience or connections with the Oregon Department of Education, Higher Education Coordinating Commission, or refugee resettlement organizations.

If you are interested in becoming an Advisory Council member, or if you would like to nominate someone that the ORTESOL Board should contact regarding becoming an Advisory Council member, email info@ortesol.org with your suggestions!
