About Us

ORTESOL is.....

A not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization incorporated in the state of Oregon. ORTESOL's purpose is to promote scholarship, disseminate information, strengthen instruction and research at all levels in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages, and to cooperate in appropriate ways with other groups having similar concerns.

Board Information

The ORTESOL board meets quarterly and members are elected for two year terms. Details of the board positions can be found in the Board Position Guidelines below. ORTESOL has a number of standing committees to assist with the running of the organization. Their duties are described in the Board Committee Guidelines.

Being on the ORTESOL Board gives you the opportunity to positively impact your professional career and the ESOL landscape of Oregon.

ORTESOL is looking for dedicated ESOL professionals willing to commit time and energy to fulfilling our mission as board members starting in January 2020. Serving on the ORTESOL board offers opportunities for networking, CV building, gaining valuable experience and, especially, doing important work in education.

We are currently recruiting for the following volunteer board positions: 

  • K12 SIG (Special Interest Group) Co-Chair
  • Adult Education SIG (Special Interest Group) Chair
  • Volunteer Coordinator
  • Conference Co-Coordinator
  • Exhibitors' Liaison

How to Apply?

Answer the following questions in 300-800 words in an email with the subject line "Election Committee: Applicant" to info@ortesol.org no later than 6 pm PST, November 29, 2019.

  1. What position are you applying for & why? (Indicate if you are open to another open position as well.) 
  2. What skills do you have that qualify you for this position (please reference duties listed for the position)? 
  3. What other qualities or abilities can you bring to the board? 
  4. How much time can you realistically donate to board activities, including timely communication with fellow board members and follow up on duties. 

In addition to answering the above questions please include:

  • Your phone number, email address, and mailing address.
  • Your résumé/CV in a version that can be sent to all ORTESOL members (delete contact information that you do not want to become public if you wish).
