The James Nattinger Travel Grant

These  grants are specifically to support teacher development at the annual TESOL Convention. It is funded by ORTESOL in keeping with our mission to inspire and support teachers of English to speakers of other languages through professional development, research, coalition-building, and advocacy so that learners and communities thrive.

Who is Eligible:

• In-service and pre-service teachers who serve English language learners in preK-12, Adult Ed., Higher Ed. or community settings who need financial support to attend the International TESOL Convention  
• Current ORTESOL members - renew or join ORTESOL
• Oregon residents and those who physically work in Oregon

Those who receive financial support from this grant are required to find a way to contribute to the ORTESOL community. Grantees will be asked to submit an ORTESOL blog article, social media post, or other written summary about their experience or apply to present at the next ORTESOL fall conference. Past recipients have presented a “Best of the Convention” session, for example. In addition,

• Awardees should be good stewards of grant funds. 
• Grant dollars must be used for their intended purpose.
• Grant recipients must account for costs and justify expenditures.

Eligible Expenses: 

• Roundtrip travel between your home and the host city, as well as travel within the city to/from the convention center:  airfare, Lyft, bus, etc. 
• Accommodations (maximums apply)
• Per diem for meals & incidental expenses 
• Registration fees (maximum $400) 
• TESOL membership for 1 year (ranging from $60-$105, depending on  teaching status)
