ORTESOL Board Positions

ORTESOL is looking for dedicated ESOL professionals willing to commit time and energy to fulfilling our mission as board members starting in January 2018. Serving on the ORTESOL board offers opportunities for networking, CV building, gaining valuable experience and, especially, doing important work in education.

These positions will be for two years beginning January 2018. Board members attend four board meetings a year (held on Saturdays in varying locations; first board meeting is January 20th, 2018 in Portland) and our annual Fall Conference. In addition to attending board meetings, each ORTESOL Board member has a specific set of duties and time commitments. Please review the duties of these board positions.

We are currently recruiting for the following positions:

  • Volunteer Co-Coordinator (2 positions)
  • Tech Team Chair (1 position)
  • Publications Chair (1 position)
  • K12 SIG Co-Chair (1 position)
  • Adult Education SIG Co-Chair (1 position)
  • Refugee Concerns SIG Chair (1 position; incumbent Susan Kaller is re-running for this position)
  • TESOL Liaison (1 position, incumbent Ernesto Hernandez is re-running for this position)
For additional information about serving on the ORTESOL Board, we will have a session on this topic on Saturday, November 11th during our Fall Conference. Furthermore, we will have an open board meeting after the conference on Saturday, Nov. 11th if you would like a chance to meet current board members and get a feel for the meetings.

In order to apply, answer the following questions in 300-800 words in an email with the subject line "Attn. Election Committee" to info@ortesol.org no later than 6 pm PSTNovember 30, 2017.

  1. What position are you applying for? Are there other positions you might be interested in? (This helps the election committee fill all positions in the event that one position does not receive any applicants).
  2. Why are you interested in serving on the ORTESOL board?
  3. What skills do you have that qualify you for this position (please reference duties listed for the position)?
  4. What other qualities or abilities can you bring to the board?
  5. How much time can you realistically donate to board activities, including timely communication with fellow board members and follow up on duties?
  6. Please include your phone number, email address, and mailing address in the email.

In addition to answering the above questions, please attach your résumé/CV in a version that can be sent to all ORTESOL members (delete contact information that you do not want to become public if you wish).
