The Landscape of Adult Education in Oregon
This talk will cover the state of WIOA Title II Adult Basic Skills in Oregon with attention to ESOL programs and populations. The speaker will provide insight into how Title II Adult Education is organized in Oregon and will highlight data, recent initiatives, successes, and challenges in the field, particularly as these relate to adult multilingual learners.
Ashley Garrigan holds an M.Ed. TESOL and has more than 10 years of domestic and international experience in the field of education. She has worked in K-12, intensive English program, community college, and university settings.
On site registration will be available, but no cash. Online payment only.

A one-day online conference will be offered Sunday, with some of the same presenters as the f2f.

Few conferences are organized in a learning-centered way, and we wish to change that. Factors of adult learning include personal relevance and discussion, which we intend to include with a number of innovations.
The main one is conference theme “My Burning Question!” which provides a unique participant-centered approach to how the conference is done. The first Saturday session will put participants into random triads (groups of 3) and asked to come up with one or more burning questions that they would like to answer. During the rest of the day, the participants will look for answers to their own and triad members’ questions in the presentations, and at the end of the day, they will assess what they learned.
Other innovations include presenter training if requested, energy breaks, a new presentation type called “Topic Talks” (to replace poster sessions), unconference sessions, and reflections on “takeaways.” See Innovations section for more on these.
The Venue will be the beautiful and easily accessible Harmony Campus in Clackamas.
